Free Fatty Acids:

The quality of any oil is determined by the free fatty acid levels as they indicate the grade of molecular disintegration (age) of an oil.

Peroxide Levels.

This is a widely debated issue.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration in Australia (TGA) has ruled that Emu oil when used as a complementary medicine in Australia, must have peroxide levels below 10. This issue is disputed by the federal body of the Australian Emu Industry which has applied to TGA to raise the peroxide levels from 10 to 20.

Our rendering plant certification has been for Emu oil as a food supplement which is for peroxide levels up to 18 for this purpose. It has been issued before TGA categorised Emu oil as a complementary medicine.

In Asia and Europe Emu oil is a food supplement or a cosmetic ingredient, as it comes from a farmed animal and is 100% natural.

Our experience - and many scientific tests -  with Emu oil have shown that peroxide levels of the highest biologically active Emu oils are very rarely below 20.

Corn oil as a comparison has peroxide levels of more than 60 and this is considered o.k.
